Harrison Clarke are working with an ambitious, fast-growing AI company in San Francisco that are building a product designed to fundamentally change how people interact with software.
As AI moves from simple chat interfaces toward autonomous systems, agents, and intelligent workflows, the frontend is becoming more important than ever. The challenge is no longer simply displaying information - it’s creating entirely new ways for humans to understand, control, and collaborate with intelligent systems.
We’re looking for an AI Frontend Engineer to help define what that experience looks like.
This is an opportunity to join a small, highly talented engineering team where you’ll have significant ownership over the product and the ability to see your work go directly from an idea to something used by customers.
The Role
As an AI Frontend Engineer, you’ll sit at the intersection of product, design, frontend engineering, and AI.
You’ll build intuitive, high-performance interfaces that make complex AI capabilities feel simple and natural. You’ll work closely with product and design to rethink traditional application patterns and create experiences that wouldn’t have been possible a few years ago.
Responsibilities:
- Own major areas of the frontend from architecture through implementation and iteration.
- Build polished, highly interactive product experiences used by real customers.
- Work closely with designers and product leaders to turn ambiguous ideas into exceptional user experiences.
- Develop new interaction patterns for AI-powered workflows, agents, and intelligent systems.
- Build reusable frontend architecture and component systems that allow the product to move quickly.
- Work closely with backend and AI engineers to integrate sophisticated AI capabilities into a seamless product experience.
- Think deeply about performance, responsiveness, usability, and developer experience.
- Help establish frontend engineering standards as the company scales.
- Have meaningful input into product direction - not just how something is built, but what should be built in the first place.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant frontend experience.
- Strong experience with TypeScript / JavaScript and React or a comparable modern frontend framework.
- A strong understanding of frontend architecture, state management, APIs, and performance.
- Experience building polished, user-facing products rather than purely internal tooling.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment where requirements aren't always perfectly defined.
- Someone who enjoys taking ownership and moving quickly from concept → prototype → production.
Nice to haves
- Experience building AI-native products or interfaces.
- Experience with LLMs, agents, RAG, or AI-powered workflows.
- Familiarity with streaming interfaces and real-time applications.
- Experience with complex data visualization or highly interactive applications.
- Experience at an early-stage startup.
- Strong product or design sensibility.
